Yep, that’s what my new daily routine is all about. It is a far cry from the beauty and peace I found on the magical, spirit-filled campus of GETS. As I was listening to a lecture on U Tube today, my mind kept going back to the sound of Lake Michigan lapping onto the shore, knowing the lecture hall was a short walk from the “thin place” I found there by the water. Prayer time by the beach was a purifying experience for me; the sound of the water cleansing my soul as I gave thanks for this wonderful blessing. I imagine I will go back there often, in my minds eye, a coping strategy I will use to get through this big stack of books. Thanks be to God!

Making a Bold Sacrifice

I am still working on my commitment in sacrifice in this Lenten Season. I know, I know, we are two weeks in..but..in my belief, simply giving something up for 40 days is not what I am supposed to do. I am really soul searching for a particular transgression, behavior (or anything that displeases our Lord), permanently, so that I might walk alittle closer to Him. ( or at least put a big smile on His face!)

I posted a very real story on our Facebook page today that hit home for me in an unsettling way. As the Parent of a gay son and an overweight daughter, our family have experienced, in the past, the hurtfulness of pastors and/or church family, as they used the old testament to ostracize and condemn both of them for their sins. I would love to hear your thoughts and biblical inspirations on this particular topic.

It was a Christmas gift, a daily devotional called “Jesus Calling.” It is amazing to me how each daily writing reflects and answers to my personal struggles and joys in life. During this time of great sorrow, challenges and stress, it has been a comfort that can only be compared to Christ and His Word. Are there special resources of comfort you would like to share?

Tears…God’s healing ointment. He captures each one and then adds His understanding…comfort…forgiveness…peace and mixes it all up with His love. He gently applies the ointment to your open wound with His majestic hand. At first, it stings a bit but just as a mother will tell her little child, God whispers to you, “It is ok. It won’t sting for long. It will get better soon, you’ll see.” You nod and He wipes another tear from your cheek. He smiles and you return the smile. You trust Him as you find peace in His reassurance that everything will be ok.
